POSITION TYPE TERM, FULL-TIME
Background:
The Nutritionist Cook will oversee the preparation and delivery of nutritious, balanced, and culturally appropriate meals for individuals attending NACM programming. This position requires strong culinary skills, and a deep understanding of the unique dietary needs of individuals recovering from addictions. The Cook will also incorporate traditional Indigenous foods and nutritional practices into meal planning, ensuring that all meals support both physical and emotional healing. The Cook will be an integral part of our team, making a direct and positive impact on the health and well-being of individuals on their recovery journey. This position reports to the Program Coordinator.
Required Qualifications:
- Meal Preparation & Cooking: Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals daily, ensuring they meet the dietary needs of individuals in recovery.
- Menu Planning: Develop and maintain a rotating menu that reflects both culturally appropriate foods and nutritional guidelines.
- Dietary Considerations: Accommodate special dietary needs (e.g., allergies, cultural preferences) and ensure meals align with clients’ recovery goals.
- Kitchen Maintenance & Safety: Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen, ensuring that all health and safety protocols are followed.
- Budget Management: Monitor food supplies, manage inventory, and ensure cost-effective purchasing while minimizing waste.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other programming staff members to ensure that the meals provided support the overall recovery plan for each individual.
- All other duties as assigned.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree/diploma/certificate in culinary arts (asset).
- 3-5 years of experience in a professional kitchen.
- Combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
- Experience working in a therapeutic, healthcare, or recovery-oriented environment is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, nutrition, and meal planning.
- Understanding and respect for Indigenous cultures and traditions, with experience integrating traditional foods into meal planning and preparation.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Food Handlers Certificate (required).
- Clear criminal record check, vulnerable sector check, child & adult abuse registry checks.
