Background:
Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Live-In Mentor to join our Yellow Shawl Youth Housing Program. This position plays a crucial role in providing supervision, support, guidance as youth navigating life challenges on their way to independence.
Position Descriptions:
Yellow Shawl Housing Mentors are live-in mentors responsible for fostering a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for three youth residents between 16-21 years, Mentors provide oversight and maintain stability in the home. Through mentorship, they assist youth in developing and maintaining basic life skills and support them in their personal growth and development. Mentors must be willing to live on-site in the provided accommodation, which includes a private bedroom, and be available to support youth residing in the home, including days, evenings, and weekends. Mentors receive free accommodation and a monthly stipend of $1,500 and are provided respite one weekend per month. The position allows the Mentor to attend school or work outside the home while ensuring the Mentor position responsibilities are met.
(This is a contract position with no employee benefits).
Qualifications:
- Experience working with Indigenous youth and their families.
- Establishing trusting relationships with youth to improve their health and well-being.
- Ability to use strength-based and solution-focused and non-judgmental approaches.
- Ability to take initiative and to take direction and work well in a team setting.
- Flexibility to workdays, evenings and weekends as may be required.
- Proficient in MS Office applications and basic skills in database, email, and social media.
- Understanding of Indigenous customs, experience, traditions, and values is an asset.
- CPR and First Aid valid Certification.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License and access to a vehicle would be an asset.
