Job Summary:

The Community Connector will build up and expand our outreach in the Elmwood community through facilitating our safety patrol, canvassing door to door, and utilizing a variety of social media platforms to showcase Chalmers Neighbourhood Renewal’s programs. This position requires good communication skills, willingness to learn and listen, friendliness, professionalism in all areas, positive problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently as well as on a team.

Role 1: Community Safety Facilitator

  • The Community Connector will enhance safety and cultivate community relationships by overseeing all aspects of our safety patrol initiative, the Elmwood Unity Walk. This role entails a willingness and capability to venture outdoors in all weather conditions while maintaining positive interactions with all individuals encountered.

Key duties:

  • Coordinating volunteers.
  • Planning and preparation.
  • Guiding the walk, including responsible collection and disposal of hazardous items (such as drug paraphernalia and weapons), distribution of snacks, water, and other essential resources.

Role 2: Neighborhood Awareness Advocate

  • The Community Connector will bolster awareness of ongoing programs through targeted outreach within the local vicinity.

Key duties involve:

  • Conducting door-to-door canvassing.
  • Promoting programs via social media, events, and activities.

Role 3: Events Support

  • Collaborating with our events manager. The Events Support person will actively engage with the community through our community events.

Key duties:

  • Assist with the planning and preparing of community and organizational events.
  • Apply for appropriate permits and plan and preparing of logistics.
  • Assist with all aspects of the events from start to finish.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or any related experience.
  • 1-3 years experience in a non-profit setting, preferably working with at-risk persons.
  • Willingness and capability to walk outside in all weather, for extended periods of time.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience working within a large and diverse team in a dynamic environment.
  • Significant experience in working with a non-profit organization is an asset.
  • Experiences in assisting community programs are an asset.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Must have organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Must be willing to contribute develop and deliver services to community members.
