DUTIES
The Educational Assistant (EA) will support students and the Instructor in the Human Resource Management Certificate program. This remote role involves assisting throughout course delivery, including preparing instructional materials such as handouts, assignments, and exams, as directed by the Instructor. The EA may also support class delivery by explaining concepts, demonstrating procedures, clarifying subject areas, and providing guidance to students.
Key responsibilities include maintaining the virtual classroom, offering technical support, and holding scheduled office hours to assist students outside of class. Student support may involve helping with coursework, resolving basic technical issues, and guiding students to appropriate resources, such as counseling, Elders, or accessibility services. Candidates should have a passion for supporting adult learners, strong problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach. Lived experience in remote northern communities is an asset, providing valuable insight into the barriers and challenges students may face. This position is remote with potential for hybrid work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certificate in Educational Assistant or Community Service Worker; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience working directly with Indigenous learners in a classroom environment
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in small to large group settings
- Ability to guide students to access to resources such as tutoring, counseling services, employment services, etc.
- Experience with various learning technologies & Learning Management Systems such as D2L
- Working knowledge of MS Office Software including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to present material to groups with the use of appropriate technology
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Self-identifies as an Indigenous person with lived experience
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- This position may be required to work throughout the academic year including the summer months
- This position may be required to travel
- May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
- This is a remote position and requires reliable access to internet
