JOB SUMMARY

Siloam Mission’s commitment to being housing-focused requires supports and services live into an eviction prevention framework. As part of Siloam Mission’s Housing Strategy, Mino Pimatisiwin Navigator will work with tenants who require a variety of supports in order to remain living independently in their own residence. The heart of the Mino Pimatisiwin (The Good Life) framework is fostering community and development of safe, healthy social networks, as well as coordination of activities that support home maintenance, various life skills, voluntarism, and healthy living activities and injury prevention (aging in place). Reporting to the Housing Intake and Transition Manager, the Mino Pimatisiwin Navigator will facilitate friendly visits, home maintenance activities, education on fraud prevention, and support access to community services and local amenities (grocery, banking, pharmacy, etc.).

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure the Mino Pimatisiwin (The Good Life) Program is delivered in the spirit and philosophy of Siloam’s Eviction Prevention Philosophy;
  • Provide residential services or friendly visits to support continuation of tenancy, including but not limited to supporting residents’ home maintenance skills and unit cleanliness;
  • Facilitate physical wellness programming for older adults (for example, chair fitness, falls prevention) and coordinate learning opportunities that decrease vulnerability to homelessness in older adults (for example, prevention of Elder/Financial abuse, etc.);
  • Work with the Housing Support team to arrange service coordination with outside agencies;
  • Work with appropriate Siloam Departments to coordinate and track services that would ensure accessibility of buildings, including lawn care and/or snow removal;
  • Support client access to third-party transportation to facilitate access to community and medical appointments;
  • Foster relationships with external organizations to ensure access to external services and expand program offerings to residents/tenants;
  • Record client services in appropriate tracking tools/documents;
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, and adhere to privacy legislation;
  • Financial reporting specific to program site and budget;
  • Participate in on-going professional development activities as time and financial resources permit;
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities as determined by the Housing Leadership team.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong desire to act in the service of individuals who are vulnerable to eviction and housing loss, including Indigenous persons and Newcomers;
  • Degree or diploma in social services, or equivalent experience;
  • Experience working with volunteers in a non-profit environment;
  • 1 or more years’ experience in client services experience;
  • 1 or more years’ experience working with older adults (50+);
  • Proficiency with computer programs (Outlook, Excel, Work and PowerPoint);
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision;
  • Well-developed administrative, organizational and communication skills in order to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to lift 11.5kg when required;
  • A reliable vehicle (or ability to rent), driver’s license, $2,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record, and willingness to transport participants in own vehicle to appointments.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIORS

  • Demonstrated understanding of the unique issues and barriers affecting those experiencing or at risk of experiencing poverty and homelessness;
  • Good understanding of colonization and its impact on Indigenous peoples;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work well with and builds successful working relationships with internal and external partners and Indigenous community;
  • Ability to work independently, and positively contribute to the team;
  • Confident, dynamic, and a results-oriented professional who can exercise strong judgment when balancing multiple priorities with overlapping deadlines;
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, show initiative and be proactive;

 WORKING CONDITION

  • Hours of work: varied to cover full week, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with occasional evenings;
  • Office environment;
  • Frequent off-site events;
  • Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members;
