POSITION TYPE PERMANENT, FULL-TIME, 37.5 HOURS/WEEK
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Director of Kookum's Place Daycare Centre, the Early Childhood Educator II will be responsible for the well-being, supervision, and positive guidance of the children within the facility. In accordance with Manitoba Child Care Program Regulations and Standards, this role is responsible to provide all children with a variety of developmentally and age appropriate learning experiences in the following program areas: learning environment, physical, emotional, cognitive, social, communication, and creative. In addition, the Early Childhood Educator will be dedicated to the overall health, safety, and development of each child, while maintaining a positive, nurturing, and energetic attitude towards children, staff, and clientele.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise children based on age, development, and personality, ensuring compliance with established ratios through regular checks
- Interact positively, nurturing, and constructively with children
- Adhere to Kookum’s Place Daycare’s Behavior Management Policy
- Respect and acknowledge children’s right to express thoughts and emotions appropriately
- Provide for children’s basic needs, including food, shelter, clothing, rest, hygiene and first aid
- Implement an anti-bias curriculum promoting diversity and acceptance
- Plan and lead daily activities that support physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and sensory development, balancing active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and group/individual activities
- Observe and assess children’s development, informing the site supervisor of any needed support
- Collaborate constructively with staff in group settings
- Contribute to children’s individual guidance and behavior management plans
- Attend staff meetings for information sharing, planning and team-building
REQUIREMENTS
- Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Manitoba Child Care Program ECE II Classification
- Graduation from a recognized College or University program
- Additional training may be required for staff working with children with special needs
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with or caring for young children in a childcare facility
- Follow all licensing requirements and standards of the Child Day Care Act including Licensing Manual Best Practices
- Continually advances knowledge of childcare through education, courses, and workshops
