POSITION TYPE  TERM (6 Months), FULL-TIME (Mon – Fri, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm)

                             (Occasional shift in school age program 12:30 pm – 8:30 pm)

JOB SUMMARY

The Early Childhood Educator will primarily support the Preschool Program (8 children), ensuring a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. This role involves planning and implementing activities that foster social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in supervision of all children and in ensuring that all children are accurately signed in and out at each attendance period.
  • Prepare daily activities based on the individual needs and characteristics of the children in the program, providing appropriate stimulation and nurturing.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
  • Meet with other staff, parents or other professionals as required.
  • Develop rapport with the parents and provide role modelling, advice and encouragement and support.

QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Early Childhood Educator classification required; a minimum of one year of related experience preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of addictions and their effects on children.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, practices, customs, and beliefs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and able to exercise sound judgment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check and child abuse registry check (no older than three months)
  • A valid driver’s license with a reliable vehicle and a satisfactory drivers abstract.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate is considered an asset.
  • Valid First Aid / CPR Certification an asset.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic and be reliable.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals.
