POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME (Mon – Fri, 8 am – 4 pm, one evening/week)
(Some weekends may be required)
Helper Role:
- The Helper role is with the children and youth of the moms referred to the program;
- Runs child and youth groups/violence prevention programming (how to treat people, healthy relationships, programming for boys turning into young men; roles of men and women in the Indigenous community);
- Provides programming for children and families;
- Registers families for retreats; responsible for logistics and administration of programs;
- Assists with other child related needs (e.g. accessing respite, daycare supports, therapy, etc.);
- Supports Coordinator with programming and other duties;
The successful candidate will meet the following conditions of employment:
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Produce satisfactory background checks;
- Have current First Aid and CPR Level C Certification;
- Have a valid class 5 Driver’s license and access to a vehicle;
Furthermore the successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Ability to genuinely and supportively care for children/youth in crisis;
- Ability to provide guidance and supervision to the children/youth;
- Understanding of Indigenous history and its impact on children/families today;
- Ability to establish strong, positive working relationships with co-workers;
- Experience in completing written work such as reports and forms;
- Knowledge of the CFS system and standards related to the care of children;
- Demonstrated ability to be punctual, organized, consistent and to show initiative;
- Written and verbal communication is considered an asset.
