The Opportunity

The Community Family Information Liaison will be responsible for assisting families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls within First Nation and rural communities (south of the 53rd parallel) in Manitoba. You will provide general information regarding the Criminal Justice system, short-term counselling, risk assessments, safety planning and referrals to community programs as required. The successful candidate will work closely with the families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2Spirit folx, community agencies, and government departments and agencies to ensure questions families have about their loved one(s) are answered and ensure families receive comprehensive support and referral to both Western and traditional resources.

What You Will Be Doing….

  • Providing trauma-informed culturally-safe and therapeutic care to MMIWGTS+ families
  • Effectively communicating with different stakeholders including Indigenous community members, provincial and federal governments, and collateral agencies
  • Collecting statistical information and data-entry
  • Facilitating sharing and healing circles and sharing knowledge of traditional healing practices
  • Creating project-related documents, materials, and presentations
  • Engaging and following up with families that are connected to the program to ensure needs are met
  • Report writing and budget maintenance
  • Assisting in mediation and conflict management with crisis intervention skills; Providing assistance on resources, advocacy, and Elder support
  • Demonstrating a deep understanding of topical and historical Indigenous economic, cultural and political environments;

Who You Are:

As the Community Family Information Liaison, You are:

  • Comfortable with program facilitation and presentations
  • Experienced in providing therapeutic, culturally-supportive resources to people experiencing grief
  • Advanced knowledge about the effects of unresolved loss, trauma, and grief;
  • Awareness of the issues concerning human trafficking and sexual exploitation and victimization;
  • Intimate knowledge of the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls within Canada;
  • Able to effectively and clearly communicate verbally and in writing
  • Culturally-competent, and versed in Indigenous traditional healing modalities
  • Detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated individual
  • Proficient multi-tasker with the ability to pivot to participants and program needs
  • Team player who demonstrates flexibility and adaptability

You Have:

  • University Degree in a related field and three (3) years’ experience working in the Indigenous community; or equivalent combination of education and experiences with successful program or program coordination
  • Proven expertise in applying an anti-oppressive framework, and demonstrated cultural competence
  • Commitment to cultural reclamation practice is essential
  • Experience facilitating sharing/healing circles and knowledge of traditional healing practices
  • Satisfactory completion of recent (as of the last 6 months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search; Child Abuse Registry Check; Adult Abuse Registry check
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR is an asset
  • Mental Health First Aid, Food Handlers, and ASIST training is an asset
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle are Required
