POSITION TYPE PART-TIME, CASUAL, EVENINGS
Job Purpose
- The cleaner is responsible for performing cleaning, janitorial services and basic maintenance tasks of the properties under the direction and control of Neeginan Centre Inc.
- The cleaner will ensure that the established cleaning schedules are followed according to the cleaning standards in a safe and efficient manner.
- Evening shift work is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
In consultation with the lead cleaner on shift, the cleaner will perform:
- Sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing, vacuuming in office spaces, washrooms and public areas.
- Empty trash receptacles and garbage containers.
- Maintain a clean and organized janitorial room.
- Replenish supplies in the janitor rooms and public spaces.
- Wash windows and glass surfaces.
- Clean elevators and door tracks.
- Change light bulbs – if safe to do so.
- Strip, clean, buff and wax hard floor surfaces.
- Wash walls, bathroom stalls and other soiled surfaces.
- Snow clearing and other outdoor cleaning duties.
- Properly use and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Maintain building security – locking doors and setting alarms as needed.
- Assist in the set-up of the building for meetings and special events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Academic: Grade 12 or equivalent level of education and experience, able to read, write and understand written and verbal communications in English.
- 1 year of experience in a similar role with a sound knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, equipment and job performance standards.
- Clear criminal record check and child abuse registry check is required.
Specialized Skills
- Safe use of floor polishers, automated floor scrubbers, vacuums, carpet cleaners.
- WHMIS training or willing to train.
- First Aid/CPR or willing to train.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), proper use and care.
Other Skills
- Must be reliable, trustworthy, and punctual.
- Proven teamwork skills.
- Able to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Able to understand and follow established schedules and standards for cleaning efficiently.
- Knowledge of cleaning supplies; effectiveness, safe use and storage.
Physical requirements
The position requires:
- Able to lift 50 lbs (22kg) – moderate physical effort.
- Minor exposure to dirt, dust, fumes.
- Able to stand, crouch, kneel for extended periods.
- Able to regularly use stairs in a multi-storey building.
- Close attention to detail.
