Position Summary

The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership of 2Spirit Manitoba. This includes the ongoing preservation and further development of 2Spirit Manitoba's programs, services, strategic priorities, initiatives, and campaigns. The Executive Director is responsible for the oversight and administration of 2Spirit Manitoba’s programs and services, including all operational policies and procedures, financial accountability, and overall support and management of staff at central and planned regional sites across the province in collaboration with the Board of Directors. The Executive Director creates and maintains positive and reciprocal relationships with funders, the community, and other agencies, and guides the strategic growth and development of 2Spirit Manitoba through the implementation of the Board-approved Strategic Plan.

Supervision

This position is supervised by the Chair of the Board of Directors, or their designate. This position directly supervises Senior Management team positions and is the back-up supervisor for all other staff positions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Non-profit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, or a related discipline is required.
  • A Master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MPA, MSW, or a related graduate degree) is considered a strong asset.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, cultural knowledge, and lived experience will also be considered, particularly in relation to leadership within 2Spirit, Indigenous, or community-led organizations.
  • Additional training or certification in areas such as project management, fund development, financial management, human resources, or board governance is considered an asset.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role, ideally within a non-profit or community-based organization, is required.
  • 3–5-year proven leadership experience in a non-profit or community-based organization.
  • Strong understanding of 2Spirit and Indigenous cultures, values, and realities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in financial management and resource development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and stakeholders.

Specific Accountabilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Position 2Spirit Manitoba to respond to the changing landscape and demographics of 2Spirit and Indigenous communities.
  • Pursue engagement, advocacy, and promote education at regional, provincial, and national committees, and on coalitions related to 2Spirit and Indigenous issues.
  • Communicate both the substance and importance of 2Spirit Manitoba’s mission to the public, government agencies, legislative bodies, strategic partners, and other external stakeholders, including funders through advocacy and awareness raising.
  • Ensure a decolonial, trauma-informed, gender-responsive, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive approach to all 2Spirit Manitoba operations, programs, and services.
  • Promote and demonstrate, through example and consistent behavior, the vision, mission, and values of the organization.

Governance

  • Liaise between the Board of Directors and 2Spirit Manitoba staff to establish a community-driven strategic plan and vision for the organization.
  • Provide the Board with timely and accurate information and analysis to inform policy/governance decision-making.
  • Oversee and ensure the development of procedures that adhere to Board-approved policies.

 Financial and Resource Management

  • Ensure co-development of the annual operational budget by the Senior Management Team.
  • Ensure procedures are in place to monitor procurement needs and inventory of goods and supplies across all sites.
  • Work within the approved salary grid to implement staff increases, retention strategies, and oversight for year-over-year inflation.

Planning, Development, Research, and Evaluation

  • Establish Board-approved, annual operational plan tied to the Board’s strategic plan with measurable goals, in collaboration with the Senior Management Team.
  • Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the organization’s priorities.

Community and Sector Relations

  • Commitment to engage in annual community-facing events at 2Spirit Manitoba program sites.
  • Develop and foster strategic relationships based in reciprocity.
  • Establish active and productive working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, Indigenous governance bodies, and other key partners.

Adherence to External Regulatory Bodies – Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal legislation as it relates to all agency operations.
