DUTIES
Reporting to the Chair, Global Access (English Language Programming for Academic Advancement), Red River College Polytechnic is looking for an Instructor for Intensive English for International Students. Responsibilities include classroom instruction, supervision, advising, guidance and evaluation of students, maintenance of student records and other professional duties related to instruction. Examples of subject areas are Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking Skills, Digital Literacy, College Success Strategies, and Intercultural Competence. Instructors may also be responsible for developing curricula for classroom and online delivery. The incumbent is also required to participate in department and College committees and assist in student orientation and graduation activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, for example: education, humanities and social science; or professional and applied sciences; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Relevant teaching experience or ESL/EAL teaching experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate positive outcomes
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to teach on campus and remotely
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently as well as in small to large group settings
- Certificate in Teaching English as a Subsequent Language (ESL) from a TESL Canada recognized institution (Minimum 120 hours of classroom instruction and a 20 hour practicum). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience developing curriculum and instructing at a post-secondary level
- Certificate in Teaching for Learning or Adult Education
- Experience developing and instructing distance-delivered courses including online
- Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver blended (synchronous and asynchronous) instruction
- Knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks and Portfolio-Based Language Assessment)
- Experience preparing learners for post-secondary study and/or Canadian workplaces
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- This position may be required to work throughout the academic year including the summer months
- Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
- May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
