POSITION TYPE TERM (March 31, 2026), FULL-TIME
Background:
The Men’s Support Services Facilitator is part of the team for the “EmpowerMen Project - Engaging Men and Boys to prevent sexual exploitation”. The candidate is responsible for providing various supports to men with a focus on improving relationships, wellbeing, goal setting and cultural awareness. The Support Services Facilitator works closely with the other team members to promote and expand the services that are available.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individual support and group facilitation for men and/or boys related to topics of relationships, mental health, sexuality and wellbeing.
- Promote values and attitudes among participants that foster positive and healthy behaviors towards women, gender-diverse people, children and themselves.
- Encourage participants to critically assess how gender norms/roles, unhealthy masculinity, and beliefs about power and privilege contribute exploitation of women and girls.
- Provide supports to a culturally and ethnically diverse group of men with sensitivity and respect.
- Increase awareness amongst men and boys on impacts of sexual exploitation and sex trafficking on women, girls and the community.
- Refer men to suitable services (e.g. mental health counselling, sexual addiction therapy, etc.) for referrals.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in social work, counseling, social services, or a similar field.
- Min of 4 (four) years’ experience in direct service delivery such as counseling, coaching, group facilitation in related sector (mental health, domestic violence, sexual health, etc.).
- Experience in group facilitation including using creative ways to engage men or boys in meaningful ways.
- Understanding of topics related to men's lives such as relationships, mental health, sexuality and intimacy, coping, trauma, and loss.
- Ability to quickly build relationships with men and boys from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Experience in sexual or addictions counselling an asset.
- Understanding of colonization and historical trauma and its impact on women, girls + gender-diverse individuals.
- Dedicated to promoting gender equality and non-violent, positive relationships.
- Supports Indigenous values; has knowledge of Indigenous cultures.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with participants, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Results and outcome oriented.
- Friendly, open and engaging personality.
- Highly organized and self-motivated.
- Projects an overall positive and respectful approach with all people; ability to work cooperatively with others and contribute as a team member.
- Driver’s License and access to vehicle.
- Ability to work occasionally in the evening and on weekends and travel.
- Must provide current (within the last three months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search, Child Abuse Registry check, and be subject to Prior Contact Check.
