POSITION TYPE TERM (Aug 14, 2025 – Apr 30, 2030), FULL-TIME
DUTIES
The School of Indigenous Education is seeking a Navigation Coach, full-time, temporary position. The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Indigenous Student Supports and Partnerships. The Navigation Coach provides a first point of contact and navigational support for new and returning students, assisting with all aspects of transitioning into college life. This position assists in the recruitment and application process for new and returning students and collaborates with staff in the coordination and delivery of the program's information sessions and events. The Navigation Coach prepares and maintains accurate and up-to-date confidential student files and case records, program files, spreadsheets and administrative records. This position will assess student essentials, provide timely advice and make referral(s) where applicable. Other activities include; consulting with faculty, staff and Elders in Residence in the provision of Indigenous student retention support services, liaising and building relationships with students’ communities and funding agencies, planning and implementing student orientations and events, providing advocacy, and collaboration with both the internal college community and external communities at large.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A university degree in a relevant field of study, preferably in Indigenous Studies, Community Development, or Social Sciences. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience working directly with Indigenous learners in the provision of assessment, using a case management approach to provide timely and appropriate supports, resources and referral(s)
- Experience and understanding of working with consultative approaches, processes and systems within a post-secondary environment in the provision of student records, academic programs, and retention support services
- Experience with planning and implementing learner focused and culturally based initiatives such as Indigenous cultural activities, orientations and events that support, assist and retain Indigenous students
- Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative model with internal and external Stakeholders, Indigenous communities, education authorities, councils, and service providers to support recruitment and retention engagement initiatives
- Experience and knowledge of developing and maintaining data collection and reporting systems
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Teams) and ability to adapt to new technologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management, organizational and administrative skills in addition the ability to take the initiative, be creative, resourceful, and flexible
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of the Red Seal Apprenticeship Certification
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- This position may be required to work overtime
- This position may be required to travel
- May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
- Incumbent must hold a valid class 5 driver`s license
