JOB SUMMARY
The Program Essentials Instructor is responsible for delivering the Program Essentials program which is a part of the post secondary experience at Neeginan College of Applied Technology. The purpose of the program is to assist students in developing and expanding on the knowledge & skills necessary to successfully complete a college-level training program. As well as assisting students to enhance their level of self-awareness, realize the benefits of health and wellness, understand Indigenous history and culture. Assist students to learn excellent study-habits, deal with financial management strategies, increase their ability to work effectively with others, promote and teach the nine essential skills, and plan for their career, with a focus on soft skills development.
This position ensures that student support and involvement extends beyond the individual and into the community by inviting members of the Indigenous community, industry and business into the classroom as guest- speakers and by integrating community volunteerism, awareness and involvement into the curriculum. The Program Essentials Instructor will support innovative learning opportunities and the goals and objectives of the Neeginan College of Applied Technology.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and deliver Essential Skills programming to adult learners that meets individual needs
- Create an innovative and supportive learning environment
- Implement instructional activities that engage in meaningful learning experiences
- Identify and modify instructional resources that meet individual needs with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs
- Monitor and evaluate participant progress and performance, and maintain course records including attendance and grades
- Prepare reports and regular program statistics
- Support the goals and objectives of the Neeginan College of Applied Technology and NETES, specifically with development, assessment, and production of learning materials produced by participants
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Education or Social Work degree preferred
- Relevant training and experience in adult education, Indigenous community development and training in essential skills
- An acceptable combination of education and training may be considered
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrate effective and excellent oral and written communications skills
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
- Ability to develop and deliver instructional materials related to essential skills programming
- Ability to mentor individuals/participants and provide them with positive direction and guidance
- Knowledge and familiarity with the barriers faced by urban Indigenous people in the areas of training and employment
- Knowledge of and familiarity with the Winnipeg urban Indigenous community and community resources
