Reporting to, and under the direction of the General Manager, the Recreation and Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for sourcing, developing, organizing, and scheduling culturally meaningful recreational activities and volunteer programs, while designing and implementing recreational events, and promoting, recruiting, and training volunteers to assist in Michif Manor’s objectives. Michif Manor operates 24/7 therefore the incumbent must be flexible and available to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Plan, organize, and oversee recreational events, workshops, and group activities;
  • Coordinate logistics, including securing venues, equipment, and materials;
  • Promote volunteer activities and events through various channels (social media, newsletters, flyers);
  • Create a volunteer program, promotional materials, and databases;
  • Recruit volunteers to fill recreational activity schedules, develop volunteer schedules, assign duties, and ensure adequate staffing for all activities;
  • Answer general inquiries from the public and provide information related to resources and programs available;
  • Work closely with community organizations, local businesses, and other stakeholders to develop partnerships and expand program offerings.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Relevant education in the field of recreation/volunteerism or related work experience;
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in recreation activity planning/volunteerism; and expand program offerings.
  • Excellent communication skills including experience in drafting correspondence, creating training materials, and preparing reports;
  • Experience in a computerized office environment with a proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Certified Volunteer Administration credentials (CVA) considered an asset;
  • First Aid training (Basics with CPR and AED) considered an asset;
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
