POSITION TYPE   PERMANENT, FULL-TIME, 40 HOURS/WEEK

The Sous Chef supports daily kitchen activities, preparing and cooking menu items. They are experienced using various ingredients and cooking techniques, and are skilled in multi-tasking.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Arranges workstations with required ingredients and cooking equipment;
  • Prepares ingredients to use in cooking (washing, peeling, chopping, etc.);
  • Cooks food using various methods;
  • Cleans and safely stores equipment and food supplies;
  • Collaborates to plan menu;
  • Monitors stock
  • Properly washes, dries and neatly puts away all dishes, utensils, cooking instruments and cutting boards;
  • Assist with ordering supplies and communicates with vendors;
  • Assists with unloading deliveries and stocking food/items;
  • Mentors, trains and supervises SWEEP youth;
  • Inspects cooking equipment, supplies, work areas and ingredients to ensure constant conformance to regulatory standards;
  • Demonstrate an active commitment towards professional growth and advancement through participation in training, workshops, etc.;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a culinary arts program is preferred;
  • Valid Food Handler’s certificate is required;
  • Minimum 3 years of working experience in food preparation (i.e. restaurant, line cook, catering) is required;
  • Sound knowledge of food safety standards;
  • Knowledge of various from scratch cooking methods etc.;
  • Basic knowledge of ordering supplies from vendors;
  • Knowledge of various cooking methods and procedures (grilling, frying, baking, boiling, etc.);
  • Knowledge of the safe operation, cleaning and basic maintenance of commercial kitchen equipment;
  • Solid understanding of kitchen safety including safe food preparation procedures and proper cleaning and sanitization methods;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively contribute to a team, but also able to work independently;
  • Must be able to multi-task and work efficiently in fast-paced environment;
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and clear Vulnerable Sector checks;
  • Clear Child Abuse Registry and satisfactory Prior Contact checks;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent problem solving skills;
  • Basic computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software.
