We offer adult education, skills training and employment services, along with wrap-around services such as daycare, student housing, and health and wellness programming. The Opportunity
Kookum’s Place is an Indigenous-led, community-centred early learning program dedicated to supporting children and families through relationship-based care that honours Indigenous culture, values, and ways of knowing. Our approach is rooted in respect, connection, and belonging, with a strong emphasis on play-based and land-based learning.
We are seeking a passionate, caring, and community-minded Early Childhood Educator II (ECE II) to join our team. We are proud to provide a warm, inclusive, and child-centred environment where educators play an important role in supporting children’s development, confidence, creativity, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Create a safe, caring, and engaging environment for children.
- Plan and support play-based learning activities.
- Build positive relationships with children, families and team members.
- Support children’s emotional, social and developmental needs using positive guidance approaches.
- Maintain a clean, organized and culturally respectful classroom environment.
- Support daily routines including meals, hygiene, rest periods, transitions, and outdoor play.
- Observe and support children’s learning and development.
- Ensure children’s safety and well-being while following licensing, regulations, safety, health and organizational policies.
- Participate in team meetings, professional developments, and engaging learning opportunities.
- Maintain required certifications and professional standards related to early childhood education.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Manitoba ECE II Certification.
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized university or college.
- Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry required.
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a childcare or early learning environment preferred.
- Experience supporting children with diverse emotional, developmental, or behavioural needs is considered an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and culturally diverse environments.
Skills and Abilities

- Understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.

Physical & Emotional Demands
- Ability to actively engage with children throughout the workday, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and participating in indoor and outdoor activities.
- Ability to lift and carry children and equipment, and supplies as needed up to 40lbs.
- Ability to maintain a high level of supervision, awareness and attentiveness in a busy childcare environment.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively during emergency or emotionally heightened situations.
- Ability to support children experiencing emotional, behavioural or developmental challenges with patience, empathy and professionalism.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities and daily routines.
- Ability to maintain emotional resilience, positive relationships and professionalism throughout the day.

NETES requires a clear and satisfactory Criminal Record Check before employment begins. All checks must be dated within three (3) months of the start date.
