POSITION TYPE  TERM (May 4 – Aug 21, 2026), SUMMER, FULL-TIME (Mon – Fri), 35 HOURS/WEEK

We are seeking a Collections Assistant to work in the Department of Collections and Conservation for the summer.

The Department of Collections and Conservation is responsible for the overall management of the Museum’s human and natural history collections along with the institutional library, archive and records management.  Collections and Conservation Staff complete the required documentation, take on the physical care of, and provide access to the Museum’s collections in storage and on exhibition.

The incumbent will assist with the ongoing upgrade of collections record keeping systems at the Manitoba Museum which will entail cataloguing artifacts and specimens and entering information into the collections management database. Additionally, the incumbent will assist with preventive conservation tasks related to maintaining collections in the galleries and in storage.

The candidate will have upper level University or College education in any of the following areas is preferred: Anthropology, History, Museum Studies, Archaeology, Art History, or other related fields.; experience working with artifacts or specimens is desirable; and computer proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, and databases is preferred; proficiency with digital camera is desirable; proficiency in spoken and written English is essential; positive teamwork experience, self-motivation, and organizational ability is desirable; strong interest in Manitoba’s human and natural history, and First Aid/CPR training are assets.

This position is dependent upon funding from the Young Canada Works program. YCW criteria state that candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 30 years; must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee status in Canada; and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
