What will you be doing?
The Indigenous Relationship Manager is responsible to develop and implement Indigenous business banking strategies. As a foundation to this strategy, they will develop meaningful relationships and network with the First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities and leaders. The goal is to not only grow the Indigenous banking business, but to partner with the First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities to further the cause of reconciliation.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Initiate and build a long-term relationship of respect with First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities and leaders; understanding their culture, values and how the Credit Union can serve their needs.
- Develop and implement a business plan that outlines opportunities to address First Nations, Metis and Inuit business banking needs, while being mindful of every aspect of the First Nations, Metis and Inuit relationship, including economic, social and political aspects.
- Identify or recommend products and services that would be most beneficial to the First Nations, Metis and Inuit business communities.
- Advocate for the First Nations, Metis and Inuit community with internal stakeholders, bringing the First Nations, Metis and Inuit perspective to planning, decision making and strategizing.
- Create an environment of inclusion, collaboration and understanding of First Nations, Metis and Inuit cultures, history and current issues.
- Work with the Marketing department on public awareness of Access’s First Nations, Metis and Inuit business banking initiatives and reconciliations efforts.
- Remain current on government programs that impact the First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities and monitor the effectiveness of Access’s products and services in light of these programs, recommending necessary changes.
- Recommend training or support for branch staff to ensure the First Nations, Metis and Inuit members receive the A+ service that is most impactful to them.
- Maintain open communication, cooperation and regular contact with assigned business lines, providing direction, motivation and support as necessary.
- Ensure organizational adherence to policy, compliance, privacy, applicable government regulations and legislation, and ensure appropriate internal controls are followed and reported on as required.
- Collaborate with other department leaders; lead cross-functional project teams; promote change in culture and business systems that will promote strategic goals within the organization.
- Participate in management planning sessions; preparing and facilitating presentations or training as required.
- Act as an ambassador for the Credit Union through professional and personal involvement in the community and / or Credit Union system.
- Remain connected with the credit union’s history, supporting the mission, vision and values.
- Prepare regular reports to the VP as requested.
What do you need?
- Degree/certificate from a recognized University/college in business, finance or related field.
- Minimum of five to seven years business banking experience and other operational experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience, knowledge and connection with First Nation, Metis and Inuit communities.
- Able to navigate the details unique to Indigenous business, governance and legal structures and land designations and the knowledge of how these influence credit and lending processes.
- Problem solver with the ability to analyze and prioritize to meet business objectives.
- Collaborative team player with superior influencing skills that can build relationships easily across various stakeholder groups to move initiatives forward.
- Strong propensity for cross-functional collaboration.
- Proven ability in identifying and applying key performance metrics to track progress and impact of initiatives.
- Excellent negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment and perform well under pressure.
- Advanced computer skills.
