POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Children and Families, the Training and Development Specialist will be responsible for working with First Nations in Manitoba on the design and implementation of training programs aimed to enhance the capacity of First Nations engaged in delivering services to children and families. The Training and Development Specialist will incorporate Traditional Knowledge, customs, and cultural practices in developing education and training material to reunite and strengthen families through prevention services.

KEY ACTIVITIES

  • Work with the Director of Children and Families to identify training needs and develop learning objectives;
  • Design and develop training materials, including presentations, and manuals;
  • Assist with the development of curriculum for culturally appropriate workshops that promote traditional parenting practices, family violence awareness and prevention, and wellness workshops for families;
  • Assist with the development of training manuals for prenatal and postnatal support, rites of passage, family wellness, and family reunification positions to support the establishment of offices in First Nations to support children and families;
  • Create an instructional guide for training manuals to ensure First Nations are equipped with the training and materials to train others;
  • Assist with the facilitation of presentations in First Nations to present options for training and development and to determine a plan of action and timeline to accomplish goals, objectives, and activities;
  • Meet with First Nations to present training manuals and coordinate dates for training and development;
  • Facilitate training for service providers in First Nations to provide prenatal and postnatal support, rites of passage, family wellness, and family reunification support to promote community wellness and work toward bringing children home;
  • Deliver training sessions in a variety of formats to meet the needs of First Nations such as in person workshops, and virtual webinars;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through ongoing assessments, surveys, and feedback mechanisms;
  • Provide coaching and support on presentations and workshop facilitation to help build confidence, and reinforce learning and development initiatives; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • A university degree in a related field of Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of postsecondary education with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in training and development with direct provision to children and families is required;
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering training materials in a service delivery environment;
  • Strong knowledge of learning principles and instructional design methodologies;
  • Demonstrated team-oriented skills to foster a positive workplace culture;
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with staff through clear communication and teamwork;
  • Experience multi-tasking to meet the needs of complex projects and assignments;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a rapidly evolving environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight time constraints to meet deadlines with high-quality work;
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture, history, treaty, and inherent rights;
  • Experience working with First Nations and First Nations organizations or entities;
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication and presentation skills;
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Be able to follow office practices, procedures, and confidentiality;
  • Provide criminal record and child abuse registry checks;
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel upon request; and
  • Posses a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
